Abstract

A target has been developed (using the vernier principle) which makes it possible to compare the relative size of two images printed on a single sheet with an accuracy of 0.001 inches or 0.02 mm. The use of these scales has resulted in accurate measurements of relative print width (fanout and relative print length variations in GATF's web offset studies. The major findings from the study of more than 240,000 target readings are discussed.
