Optical Density and Ink Film Thickness; A Comparison of Models

Many models purporting to relate the optical density of an ink film on paper to the amount of amount of applied ink have been advanced. Several of the more popular models are examined for their applicability to black ink on uncoated paper. The effects of printing pressure and speed, ink viscosity, and paper calendaring are examined for their impact on the various models.
