Ink Trap Measurement

Optical, gravimetric, and other methods of multicolor ink trap measurements are reviewed. The notions of additivity failure and apparent trap are also discussed. A new method of trap determination utilizing repeat patterns in laboratory inking experiments is introduced. Ink trap formulas are examined with regard to the factors which cause the distinctions between trap and apparent trap. Recommendations for densitometric measurement of trap and optimal trap are developed.
