Abstract

In addition to the familiar preparation of film negatives and positives for platemaking, silver halide materials are used an increasing number of ways in the graphic arts. Positive-working lithographic printing plates are rapidly prepared directly or indirectly by the transfer of gelatin, developer, or silver complexes to the surface of the plate or to a separate plate. Chemical transfer may be used to give a direct-positive camera film or to produce line and halftone prints directly from copy. A silver halide-gelatin resist is used in the preparation of a low-relief printing plate. Photographic papers containing developing agents provide rapid access to cold-type prints. The structure and use of these materials are described.
