Abstract

The author describes progress toward control of ink dosages by a computer controlled inking system on a press, using small motor-driven ink slides positioned centrally against the ink fountain roller. He compares conventional manual systems with current and projected inking systems and concludes that the key to control of print quality by a computer system lies in design of an ancillary system for measuring the amount of water on the printing plate and correcting that amount automatically within prescribed limits.
