Abstract

The conventional method of printing continuous tone images is by using a halftone screen to break the continuous tone image into a series of dots of different sizes. The TOPOprint process is a method of producing an unsymmetrical random hard dot pattern on lithographic film without the use of a screen, halftone or otherwise. The procedure for producing TOPOprint negatives is based on the graining characteristics of a photographic emulsion under certain exposure conditions processed in the proper chemistry, and the use of an inter-reflection media to enhance the grain. characteristics of a photographic emulsion under certain exposure conditions processed in the proper chemistry, and the use of an inter-reflection media to enhance the grain.
