Abstract

Laser technology has been used over recent years in a variety of scanning/recording applications by the government and industry. These applications generally involve the performance of system tasks wherein the spectral characteristics and power output of lasers and their ability to generate a precisely controllable spot permit high speed, high quality scanning and recording for information input, output or transmission. This paper discusses a program under which the laser scanning/recording technology and components developed for use in a variety of applications are being applied to the specific task of full-size newspaper page transmission from composing offices to satellite printing plants for production efficiency. The resulting facsimile system has unique features particularly attractive to the publication industry and will permit high quality and speed, as well as efficient transmission using available and future communication links. Acroline Co, from commercial experience with Acroart data have been developed on ink formulations, fountain solutions, blankets, press settings, ink/water balance, and methods of dealing with static and ink trapping phenomena.
