Abstract

A survey is given of investigations concerned with the drying problems of gravure, flexographic printing and offset printing where physical drying of inks is used. Both the aerodynamic optimization of impinging air jet dryers and the drying behavior of solvent based inks on an imprinted material are discussed. Proposals are presented for a possible future development of an automated drying control system by application of an infrared scanning device. By this method the dryer air temperature and the amount of exhaust air can be controlled to allow optimum drying conditions.
