Abstract

A major objective in accurate continuous-tone reproduction control is to determine the exposure and development time (or any other means of contrast control) which produce specific result densities from the given input densities. The digital computer provides the storage capability and calculating power to analyze the characteristics of photographic films and compute process data for any practical application in color reproduction. Exposure tests are evaluated automatically by reading gray scales. The characteristics of the film, as processed under shop conditions, are represented by a set of equations that are used to compute exposure and contrast parameters.
