Abstract
Problems relating to the standardization and simplification of the symbols and hues used in economic cartography are discussed and the Color-Trol system is explained. This modified three-color system employs a limited number of symbol patterns plus five different % halftone dot coverages to give a total of 215 standard hues. The code used to identify each hue is explained. Techniques for preparing guide sheets, overlays, etc., ready for litho platemaking are described: full use is made of contact techniques (rather than expensive camera work) and also of scribe drafting methods.
