Blanket Piling Surveys of Web Offset Printing on Coated Papers.

Two surveys have been made of the blanket piling problem on web offset presses using coated papers. They included a rating of the severity of the problem, a classification of the types of piling, the methods used to lessen the problem, and opinions as to the causes of the piling. The surveys provide information to the industry as well as a basis for planning further research on the problem. Definitions and classifications of piling as used in this report are given in Appendix II. Its proposed that these definitions and classifications be adopted for general use by the industry.
