Abstract

In converting a densitometer to a small-spot colorimeter, a set of color mixture functions which would give greater selectivity than the conventional CIE functions and would also be easier to match by the use of existing filters was used. These are MacAdam 5 narrowest color mixture functions without negative portions. The necessary filtration was computed, considering the densitometer's light source and photocell, to match this response for the proposed D5000 graphic arts standard light source. Optical filters were selected which best approached this response Measurements were made using the modified densitometer. and accuracy of the conversion 10a colorimeter was assessed by comparison with colorimetric values derived by spectrophotometry.
