Abstract

The paper describes the functions performed by the Crosfield Magnascan 450 enlarging color scanner, and explains how it operates. Particular attention is paid to the digital system which enables the machine to enlarge a picture electronically to any desired extent, from x0.5 to x16 5, with a maximum output size of 20 x 24. The machine was developed specifically for use in the printing industry, but the way in which it fits into the general field of digital image processing is also discussed.
